Bank Holiday chaos on the A3

En route to Chessington World of Adventures with a friend yesterday, we joined the A3 at the end of South Lane to drive the short distance to Malden Junction to access the westbound carriageway, and got caught up in complete chaos and miles of stationary traffic presumably caused by an accident near DFS. 

I didn't see what actually happened but apparently it was a major accident which caused the eastbound section of the A3 at Malden Junction to be closed around lunchtime. Traffic was being redirected onto the Malden roundabout which caused inevitable traffic jams in and around New Malden.
