Best ever A-Level results for Coombe Sixth Form
By BeckyCreative | Thursday, August 18, 2011, 14:01
We expect there were a few bitten nails and sleepless nights
by Coombe Sixth Form students in anticipation for today's A-Level results. And
by the sounds of it, they needn't have worried.
Coombe Sixth Form students have achieved phenomenal grades with
almost 50% of receiving A*, A or B, a 7% increase on last year, with 71% of scoring
A* - C grades. These are the best A
Level results ever with a pass rate of 98.6%.
Equally impressive, are the results of the advanced
vocational courses with a 100% pass rate and 42% of the cohort achieving
Distinction, the equivalent to 2 A grades at A2 level.
Proud Headteacher, Deborah Walls says, "In such a critical
year for university places and clearing nationally, I am delighted Coombe
students have been able to secure their future career paths through these
impressive results, especially in Science and Maths. They are even better than last year and they
just show that our rigorous approach to preparing students for the new
challenges of securing a university education is the right one."
Just some of the success stories for 2011 include Laura
Burrows, who has achieved 2A* and 2As and secured her place at Oxford to
study Science. Tajmeet Kaira gained 4A*s
and 2As and he can now go on to Imperial College London to study Further
Maths. Ryan Heaffey is going on to
Imperial College London to study Science having achieved 3A*s and 1 A. Matthew Crabtree secured his Biomedical
Science place at Manchester University with 2A*s and 1A. ***ali Bagirtkhan and Tiffany Leung gained
distinctions in their BTEC courses and will be studying architecture and
nursing respectively.
There's clearly some fantastic talent right on our New
Malden doorstep which has been nurtured by the teachers at Coombe Sixth Form. "The
way we teach at Coombe and the way students learn, is designed to bring out the
best in all", says Head of Sixth Form, Dave Peters, "Coombe offers different
pathways for different students:
International Baccalaureate, combined BTEC and A Level courses, which
focus on work-related skills, and A Level only courses."
If you're interested in studying at Coombe Sixth Form then the good news is that there are still some spaces available for
this year's intake. Prospective students can bring their GCSE results from 9am
on Thursday 25thAugust.
Congratulations to everyone at Coombe Sixth Form.

you're welcome. People take our schools for granted and it comes to show how a bit of effort pays dividends.
This is a great, uplifting story; its a shame it centered only on CGS and not covered others in the area such as CBS, Holy X, Raynes Park High etc. But, something is better than nothing.
Thank you.
