Most of us are feeling the pinch this month, so if one of your new year's resolutions is to join a gym but you would like to save some cash doing so, our top tips will help you to find a cheap local gym membership or free pass:

Gyms are always packed at the start of the year, but just a couple of months later there is noticeably more space as motivation wanes and boredom sets in - not to mention the fact that the pricey membership you are paying goes to waste. But don't sweat, as now you can exercise locally for much less...

If you want to pay as you gym, Topnotch in New Malden offers a one day anytime gym and swim e-pass through payasyougym.com for £8.95. Visit the site to purchase online. Paying as you go can work out more expensive than a monthly membership, however its a good way to test the water so to speak.

If you want a no-frills gym membership, try The Gym Group in Kingston - winners of the Budget Gym of the Year award in 2011, monthly membership costs £16.99, with a £20 one off joining fee. There's no contract either, so you can quit at any time.

If you want a FREE gym pass, check out Epsom LA Fitness, which is offering a three day pass; simply go to the website and enter the special code in the box.

Ladies gym Curves offers a FREE one day trial; there are branches in Hampton and Twickenham. To get one, fill in the online form.

If you want a longer trial membership, try Kinetika at the Malden Centre, Blagdon Road, which offers a three month minimum membership for £34.85 a month (admin fee payable) through thegymwebsite.co.uk, saving £6.15 a month on the standard price. Also on this site is Kinetika at Kingsmeadow Kingston, which offers a minimum three month membership for £23.38 a month, saving £4.12 a month on the standard price, and a 12 month membership (minimum contract) at Topnotch New Malden for £42.95 a month (admin fee payable).

If you want a FREE trial exercise class, British Military Fitness groups are run by ex-Army training instructors and are a great way to workout in the fresh air. You can sign up for a free trial class at Bushy Park or Richmond Park online.
