The Metropolitan Police are warning the community to be extra vigilant and security aware following an increase in Gold related thefts, due to an increase in the price of Asian Gold.

So if you own large quantities of high value Gold, the Police have issued the following advice:

AT HOME:

  • When leaving your home, even for a short period, always lock all external doors and windows and set your burgular alarm if you have one
  • Store large quantities of gold in a safety deposit box
  • Keep all valuables, especially gold, in a secure storage system fixed to a solid wall or floor - ideally away from home, in a bank
  • Timing switches linked to the lights and a radio will give the impression that your home is occupied
  • Make sure valuable property, including gold, is insured
  • Photograph valuables

PERSONAL SAFETY IN PUBLIC:

  •  Prepare - think about how you are going to get there and back and remember to tell someone where you are going, who you are going with and when you expect to return
  • Look confident - remember your body language - stand tall and look like you know where you're going
  • Avoid risks and be aware - keep looking and listening to what's happening around you
  • Never take safety for granted - don't say to youself, "it only happens to other people"
  • Cover up expensive looking jewellery
If you suspect/witness a crime in progress, dial 999, otherwise 101
