New Malden station has reopened but services are running with severe delays following a fatality this afternoon.
-
The station has now reopened following a fatality earlier today
Emergency services attended the incident which happened early afternoon, when a person was struck by the 1.11pm Waterloo to Shepperton train on platform 4.
According to the Kingston Guardian, there were about five police officers standing outside the station and it was cordoned off. Then streams of people started walking towards the bus stops because the trains had stopped running.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "BTP were called to New Malden rail station following the report of a person being struck by a train. Metropolitan Police officers also attended the incident, which is being treated as non suspicious."
"Paramedics from London Ambulance Service also attended but the person was declared dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person and inform their next of kin."

What tragic news, I do hope that none of the local community have been affected by this incident. I was travelling on south-west trains that day and it was very slow but as far as I am aware the emergency services did their best under what must have been very difficult circumstances.

ReportThis is devastating news. Thank you for keeping us updated RebWright. If you hear any more details could you post them here please? I hope this is just an unfortunate accident and nothing of a nasty nature - the Shepperton train stops at New Malden so it couldn't have been going fast? My thoughts go out to a family who have lost a loved one at this time of year.
