Can anyone tell me if the disasterous traffic jam outside Tesco New Malden at Christmas is any better - has the sliproad onto the bypass opened again ?

I know the traffic was horrrendous before the festivities kicked off round there. My Dad had even heard about it on the radio and he lives in the Midlands! I'm not sure what the state of play with it is now though.

I think it was an emergency gas repairs. It could be as a result of the gas leak that occured at the beginning of December outside Robert Heath on the Burlington Road. Many offices and even Sacred Heart school had to be evacuated after a car had hit a tree which reptured a pipe.

I've just been past there on the bus and the traffic is still very bad right up to the Fountain roundabout via Burlington Road. The slip road is also still closed - I'm going to try and find out more, especially when it is due to reopen, because lately you can't go anywhere in New Malden without encountering traffic congestion of some kind!

I've just done a bit of digging (excuse the pun) and it is indeed due to gas main work. No word on when it is due to reopen though...
