New Malden has a few star restaurants, and here's some of our favourites. What do you think about our selection - do you have your own list?

Japanese restaurant Yoshi Sushi is often packed with diners at the tables and the bar, where you can choose your sushi or sashimi and watch it being prepared. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, and a cool feature is the bell on each table, which can be rung whenever you need service. Whether you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine or a relative newcomer, there is something for everyone, from Yakitori to tofu and of course fresh sushi, which is first-class.

Yoshi Sushi, First Floor, 39 High Street, New Malden KT3 4BY. Tel: 020 8942 0219

Lal Akash, is renowned for its consistently excellent Indian cuisine. Wooden flooring, sophisticated lighting and modern Indian music enhances the smart surroundings, while the extensive menu includes a good choice of traditional dishes and specialties. One thing Lal Akash always seems to get right is the contrast between flavour and spice, and if you fancy a night in, there's always the option of a takeaway.

Situated on the fringes of New Malden, Sesame is my local eating house. The restaurant is stylish and contemporary, and both Indian and Thai food is served – an unusual but simple concept that gives diners more choice. Food presentation is excellent, portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. Good restaurants in this part of New Malden are few and far between, and Sesame is already very popular.

Sesame Fine Indian & Thai Cuisine, 216 Kingston Road, New Malden KT3 3RJ. Tel: 020 8949 2211/3755. www.sesamerestaurant.co.uk

And for something a little different - Jay Kays Supperclub is run by Jay and wife Kay, and was borne out of their love for home entertaining. The menus are mainly Mediterranean-style, using fresh produce. Guests dine together on a long table in the couple's stylish home in Chessington, so expect an informal evening and lively conversation. With room for 10 guests, it's £32 for six courses (bring your own wine).

Ohaio is responsible for the aroma that fills the air around New Malden train station at lunchtime and in the evening. This unassuming takeaway is actually not at all bad, and the prices are very good. It serves Japanese, Korean and Thai cuisine, sushi and set meals, and if you can't be bothered to order from the kiosk, they also deliver if you spend over £10 (£2 charge applies to orders under £15). Or book online at www.hungryhouse.co.uk

Ohaio, 1 Coombe Road, New Malden KT3 4PX. Tel: 020 8949 7266.
