It's that time of year where we start thinking about New Year's resolutions, and doing more exercise is often high up on the list.

Increase your fitness levels in 2011
Many of us could do with increasing our activity levels, and joining a gym or health club is often a good first step as your fitness will be assessed and a tailored training programme devised to suit your aims and achievements.
If motivation is a problem, you can also explore the exercise timetable and meet new gym buddies, so getting up in the dark to do that class won't be such a chore.
While New Malden isn't health club central, what we do have is varied and good value, so get involved and look forward to a new level of fitness in 2011!
Topnotch is perhaps our 'serious' local gym - it's relaxed, good value and there are good facilities, including a huge screen showing pop videos so you can sing while you step, a pool, beauty treatments, a climbing wall, a range of classes and personal training.
Malden Leisure centre is a no-frills community health hub that's good value, too. There's a Kinetika gym, an exercise club for women only, 25 metre pool, creche, classes and centre cafe.
Kingsmeadow Fitness and Athletic on the Kingston Road has a good value offering in an area of New Malden fairly devoid of health clubs. There's a Kinetika gym, an 8 lane athletics track, two five-a-side pitches, sauna and newly refurbished cafe.
Small but perfectly formed, the gym at New Malden Tennis, Squash and Badminton Club is also great value at just £27 a month for adult gym membership - in fact we think it's New Malden's best kept secret. There's two air conditioned rooms, an advanced weight training gym, personal training and a small programme of classes.
Near Old Malden, the exclusive River Club is the only (oxygen treated) pool in the UK with a retractable roof. As well as state-of-the-art gym facilities, you can enjoy classes, personal training, a health and beauty salon, juice bar and even tennis and golf.
