Parliamentary Candidate Chris Walker
Message from Chris Walker, Green Party
Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston and Surbiton
I’m standing for the Green Party in
Kingston and Surbiton because I think that the three ‘grey’ parties
are letting voters down and need to be challenged. Not only are their
policies practically identical and uninspiring, they have also lost
people’s trust with a series of scandals; from expenses and party
funding, to cash for honours and tax evasion.
What’s really interesting is if you
go to one of the many websites that have sprung up which allow you to
match your views against the different parties, especially the ones
which focus on polices (for example http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/) a lot of people are greener than they thought!
People are also sometimes surprised to
find out that the Green Party has a comprehensive and fully costed set
of policies covering heath. e4ducation and employment as well as the
one’s they expect around the environment an climate change.
For example, if you elect me, I would
work very hard to:
Invest in the NHS and keep
it free, including free care for the elderly, instead of cutting back
and privatising healthcareCreate more smaller, local
schools and end the selective testing which skews school intake in
KingstonRe-introduce free higher education
- abolish student fees Prioritise ‘zero waste’
by reducing packaging and introducing eco-taxes, instead of the secret
incineration plans for South West LondonSubsidise and invest in public
transport, instead of increasing fares as the Tory Mayor of London has
doneSupport local shops and re-open
Post Offices (only the Green Party has voted against selling off and
shutting down Post Offices in the European Parliament)Invest in creating 200,000
new green jobs, instead of subsidising bankers’ bonuses
How will the Green pay for this? For
starters, we would axe:
Trident nuclear missiles (£76bn) Super aircraftcarriers (£4bn) Eurofighter aircraft (£20bn) A400 air transporter (£3bn) National identity register
(£10bn) The Afghan war (£5bn),Motorway building and widening
(£30bn) New NHS computer systems (£20bn)
